How to Accentuate Your Curves

Real Women Have Curves

Ladies, it’s okay to dress flirty and sexy, but there is also a way to do it. First, know your body shape. This blog post is specifically for our curvy gals!

The goal is to tastefully accentuate your curves. You should choose clothing that lightly hugs your body especially your waist and hips. Some women do not know how to accentuate their curves, so they wear baggy clothes. If this is you, STOP!!! Do not wear baggy clothes to cover your curves, this is one of the worst things you could do when dressing your figure…it’s like fashion suicide. But, what you can do is pair loose fitted pieces with fitted pieces. For Example:

  Jordan Sparks

V-neck and Scoop-neck tops are the best choices if you are top heavy. Just be tasteful. You can always put a camisole underneath if too much cleavage is showing. Any top that is not on your neck or too close to it, is good.

Wrap and Empire Waist dresses will definitely smoothe out your figure as well as bias cut  and A-line skirts. Make sure the skirts and dresses you’re picking fall right above your knees. If you have fuller legs and ankles, try to stay away from strappy heels. These styles of heels cut off your height to a degree and make your leg and ankles look fuller than they are.

Notice that the heels are strapless. This gives off the illusion of being taller and the dresses stopping at or above the knee helps.

Ladies, your jackets should be cinched in at the waist. NO box styles. It looks as if you are hiding your figure. You can hide it better with a cinched-in jacket. You can also do a swing coat to play up your style. Though not fitted, very stylish and it’s a better alternative to the box jacket.

Undergarments that will help the silhouette of your look, by smooting out the finish are Spanx. Go to http://www.spanx.com/ and see the variety of pieces that can help. Spanx has also created a lower priced line available at Target, called Assets.

Great jeans for the curvy gal!

PZI Jeans have all the different styles you need!

Check out the looks below for a guide!

Jennifer Lopez looks put together.

Very pretty. In this case, the straps are okay due to her long legs but the dress needs to be a tad shorter.

Beyonce looks flirty and sexy.

America Ferrera looking nice.

 Here are the Do Not's:

The dress needs to be shorter and then the shoes may work. Otherwise, her legs look cut off by both the shoes and dress.

Jennifer Hudson got this look all wrong.  The shirt and the pants ad more volume than needed.

Kelly Clarkson should have on a more fitted top, or the right undergarment to smooth everything out.

Queen Latifah almost pulled off this look. She should tuck the shirt in all the way; otherwise she is looking frumpy around the mid-section.

This look is not good all together.  She looks frumpy and both the belt and bag are questionable.

Alicia Keys almost has it.  The dress needs to be shorter and then the shoes will work. Here, her height is being shortened.
